It is still snowy here so there will still be more hot drinks. Lately I have been making caramel for the first time and I started to experiment and I came up with this. Most of these recipes are great with coffee so try making a caramel misto (aka Café au lait). Top it with whipped cream and caramel.
1 TBSP white sugar
a splash of water
1 tsp heavy cream
1 cup milk.
Place your sugar in a mug.
Add the water.
Microwave for 30 seconds and the swirl it. Cook for 15 seconds and repeat swirling in between cooking times. Then cook for a final 5 seconds. The cooking times vary slightly depending on the amount of water but this time always worked for me.
Add your cream and stir until smooth. Be careful of steam burns.
Add the milk starting with a splash and stirring then slowly add the rest of the milk.
Any caramel chunks will dissolve. Microwave until hot give it a stir and enjoy!
